The Beatles remain one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands in the history of popular music. They still have a huge following across the world today with tourists flocking to Liverpool to see where it all began.
Pete Best was with The Beatles when they began to make a name for themselves in Hamburg, at the Casbah and at The Cavern Club in Liverpool. Pete Best remains a crucial and not to be forgotten part of the history of The Beatles.
About Pete Best
Pete Best was born in 1941 in India and his family moved back to Liverpool in 1945.
Pete Bests mother, Mona Best, opened up a coffee house in the basement where Pete best lived and invited up and coming bands to play there. This was called the Casbah Coffee Club also known as the Casbah Club or just as The Casbah.
The Quarrymen (the early incarnation of The Beatles) played some of their first concerts here. Pete Best played at the Casbah with his first band called The Black Jacks and then later with The Beatles.
Pete Best became a member of The Beatles on the 12th of August on 1960. Just the day after he joined he went with Paul McCartney, George Harrison and John Lennon to tour round the clubs of Hamburg.
Pete Best was sacked by The Beatles manager Brian Epstein in 1962. No conclusive reason has been given for this though there has been speculation about how he fitted in with the rest of The Beatles and his drumming style.
After leaving The Beatles Pete Best joined Lee Curtis and the All Stars which in turn became Pete Best & the All Stars. He then formed the Pete Best Four which then became The Pete Best Combo when a fifth member joined the band.
